A mood board (I usually call them concept boards) is a single page that shows how a room will feel before anything is ordered: the sofa, the rug, the lighting, the art, the paint and the small things that make it look finished, all placed together so you can see whether they actually belong in the same room. I make one for every project, in person or online, and clients tell me it is the moment the design "clicks."
Here are 30 of them from real projects: Los Angeles and Orange County homes, nurseries and kids' rooms, outdoor spaces, and online design clients across the country. Several are shown with their furniture floor plan, because the board and the plan are designed together — the board decides what, the plan decides where.
Want a board (and a plan, selections and a shopping list) for your own room? That is exactly what the Complete Room Design — $397 includes, for anyone, anywhere. To study 140+ more boards, see The Big Book of Mood Boards (2026 Edition).
Every board above started with the same questions: what does the room need to do, what stays, what is the budget, and what feeling do you want when you walk in. Answer those and the furniture almost chooses itself. If you would like me to answer them with you, start with a Complete Room Design ($397) or an online consultation ($150/hr).
